A painted still life based on a photo taken during a fancy lunch sits atop a photo taken of a cloudy sky through a window screen. The black avian silhouette is merely a gum-like smudge. The night before painting this, I fell asleep reading an article about permafrost and the possibility of resurrecting woolly mammoths. It felt fitting to combine this relic of the lunch photo with this celestial image - the false impression of the bird underscoring the illusory nature of photography. All in all this is the vast and lofty leaning up against the very regular, the fancy biscotti.
